THE AMIDAH
“And when ye stand praying”
“The Amidah,”
also known as “The Standing Prayer” is called the “Prayer of Prayers” in Jewish thought.
During this four week course
we will:
- Explore how the “prayer of prayers,” the Amidah, evolved through thousands of years of history and
tradition. It is not only recognized as the most intriguing, most mysterious
of Jewish prayers, the origins of the Amidah have puzzled students, scholars, and sages throughout history.
- Learn the structure of the Amidah (also known as the Shemoneh Esrei—eighteen blessings) and its connection
to the Our Father prayer and forgiveness noted in the Brit Chadashah NT.
- Pray prayers prayed over thousands of years, during Temple times as well as during the time of both Y’shua and Paul’s
ministries. Rabbi Gamliel, of whose feet Paul sat, was a major influence in the
development of these prayers during Paul’s day.
- Learn the power of blessing through the eighteen blessings that make up the Amidah also known as the Shemoneh
Esrei (eighteen blessings), while cultivating a deep and profound insight and understanding into G-d’s Name and Holiness.
Profoundly, the Amidah
is present in the New Testament and contains the core structure that Y’shua taught his disciples to pray in Matthew.
