This is Jerusalem calling.

         My name is Bill Mehlman and I’m the Jerusalem representative for Americans For A Safe Israel, which is headquartered in New York.  I have a story I think will capture the attention of your (readers, listeners, viewers.)

        It’s all about the creation of a PLO state here in the Land of Israel -- beginning with the proposed handover of 21 Jewish communities in Gaza to Yasser Arafat. This is the most explosive issue to hit the Jewish state in its 56-year history.  It has divided the Israelis. It has divided the world Jewish community.  And it’s making its mark on 50 million Bible-oriented American Christians who call themselves Christian Zionists.  They have powerful ties to Israel and its holy places. Many of their leaders regard the prospect of a radical Islamic state in this land as a moral and political catastrophe.

          Pat Robertson said it for all of them in an interview with the Jerusalem Post in December. “Please don’t commit national suicide.” he told Israel’s leaders. “The goal of Arafat, the PLO, Hamas, Hizbollah is not peace, but the final destruction of the State of Israel.”  

          Pat Robertson’s feelings are being confirmed by the early results of a nationwide internet referendum recently launched by Americans For A Safe Israel and its partner, Global Israel Alliance.  The referendum is featured on the website: globalisraelalliance.com. It invites Christians and Jews to voice their support or rejection of a PLO state in the Land of Israel The response to date has been an overwhelming rejection. Scores of church congregations across the country have enlisted in this campaign and new participants are being added daily.  The final results in October will be tabulated, certified and presented to every member of Congress and to the staff of President Bush and Senator Kerry.
